From the Principal

Dear families,

We hope the holiday break was an opportunity to recharge, reflect and relax, and for students and teachers, the chance to return with fresh energy and inspiration, ready for another exciting term ahead.

As we begin this new term, we also pause to reflect on the recent passing of Pope Francis, a true champion of compassion, hope, and the power of education. His papal life and exceptional leadership have left a lasting legacy for us all.

In the pope’s words, “Education is an act of love; it is like giving life.” Inspired by his message, may we look forward to a term filled with fresh opportunities, meaningful challenges, and continued growth, as we nurture the hearts and minds of every child in our care.

ANZAC Day

St Maria Goretti students showed great respect and community spirit at this year’s Anzac Day commemoration.  Cleo & Rachael laid a wreath on behalf of the school community, and Amelia, Pippa & Celeste spoke proudly and confidently in front of the Inglewood community.

It was wonderful to see so many St Maria Goretti students attending the march & service, proudly wearing their relatives’ medals in recognition of their families’ service to Australia. The strong presence and commitment of our students was a strong reflection of the Anzac spirit and a fitting tribute to those who have served.

Winter Uniform

The mornings are getting colder! All students are required to wear the correct school jumper and/or jacket. The uniform policy is available on our website (Policies, documents & guidelines - St Maria Goretti School, Inglewood) should you need any clarification. We appreciate your support in ensuring all students are dressed appropriately.

Mother’s Day Celebration

We warmly invite all parents and families to join us for our Mother’s Day celebration, to be held in the P/1 classroom on Wednesday the 7th of May from 9:30-11:00am. We will begin with a liturgy, followed by activities in the classroom, and finished with a morning tea.

Social Media Usage

Please be mindful that children in the primary years are limited under law by the types of social media that they can engage with. We have encountered several incidents of inappropriate use of social media this year and we ask all parents to speak with your children about social media usage at home.

If you become aware of any incidents of children using social media inappropriately, please let the school know and do not pass on images or messages to other people. We seek your support in assisting with this important matter.

Report Cards at St Maria Goretti

Teachers at Toowoomba Catholic Schools are required to gather evidence of learning to inform teacher judgement and to provide parents/legal guardians with a formal report twice yearly. We call these report cards at St Maria Goretti, and they are issued at the end of Semester 1 and 2.

The report card includes -

  • an evidence-based judgement against the learning areas of the Australian Curriculum using a five-point A-E scale
  • a general comment for each child
  • a comment for English, Mathematics & Religion for each child
  • a judgement on each student’s effort towards learning using the five-point A-E effort scale
  • information on each student’s attendance at school.

There will be a change on the report card that you will receive at the end of this Semester. We will now be reporting on a student's effort towards learning using a five-point A-E scale. Please see the descriptions, below.

Prayer for Pope Francis

Loving God,

Today we remember with sorrow and gratitude your servant Pope Francis, who returned to You after a life poured out in love and service.

Even in his final days, he brought hope to the world, blessing us on Easter Sunday, speaking words of peace, freedom, and compassion.

We thank You for his courage, humility, and tireless work for justice, unity and care for the poor. May his example guide our hearts and may his spirit of mercy live on in our words and actions.

Welcome him into the light of Your presence, and comfort Your Church as we journey forward in faith.

Through Christ our Lord,

Amen.

Yours in education,

Casey Robinson

Life and Learning in the Library

Term 2 brings many opportunities for reading for pleasure and for information. We will celebrate National Simultaneous Storytime with millions of children around Australia on Wednesday 21st May by sharing the story "The Truck Cat". We will continue weekly browse and borrow sessions, book chats and read - alouds during library sessions. All year levels will work on using information to seek answers to real world questions. Years 2, 3 and 4 students will be expected to know the 10 main groups used to organise similar topics found in Non-Fiction books.
